Student and Community Organizing:

I entered the NYU activist community focusing on environmental issues – at the time I joined my Freshman year, Oxfam America at NYU put on events focused on the issue of fracking. The first semester of my Sophmore year, I was tossed into the position of President of the NYU Oxfam Chapter, and started a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance, a Harry Potter-themed humanitarian group. Through working with both organizations, I met more students involved in other environmental groups on campus – including NYU Divest. After a year long break from NYC in Berlin, where I started the Earth Impact Club at NYU’s small campus there, I joined NYU Divest and committed the remaining time of my undergraduate career to the campaign. During my Senior year, I became increasingly involved in NYU groups focused on labor rights and student debt.

Fun Facts: In the spring of 2016, I supported the Incarceration to Education Coalition (IEC) in the Abolish the Box campaign when they occupied the Kimmel Student Life Center overnight. Three weeks later, I participated in NYU Divest’s occupation of the administrator’s elevator in Bobst Library, demanding transparency from the Board of Trustees and the chance to present the case of fossil fuel divestment at a Board meeting.
